This guide takes you beyond Chengdu city limits to find the flowers that bloom quietly—then absolutely steal the show—across Sichuan.

A Little Yellow Flower for You

Flower Name: Rapeseed Flower
Blooming Period: Throughout March to Early April
Where to Find 🔍: Jia Yang, Qianwei, Leshan

旅行图片

If there’s a flower that combines beauty with utility, rapeseed is a top contender. It’s incredibly photogenic, and it’s also China’s largest source of edible vegetable oil—the oil behind much of the fried food we love.

Every spring, rapeseed blooms appear by Huangling’s villages in Wuyuan, across the Hanzhong Basin farmlands, in Qinghai’s Menyuan fields, and beside Xizhou’s old houses in Dali. In Leshan’s Qianwei County, the scene becomes even more dreamy.

Here, one of the country’s last regularly operating passenger steam trains puffs white smoke each day as it winds through Qianwei’s rapeseed fields. The whistle sounds, the mountains open, and suddenly you’re in a spring postcard. In the age of high-speed rail, it feels wonderfully anachronistic.

  1. Take a high-speed train from Chengdu to Leshan High-Speed Railway Station, then proceed to Leshan Bus Center Station.
  2. At the bus station, take a direct bus to Qianwei Bus Station for 20 yuan/person, approximately 1 hour. Do not buy a ticket for the direct bus from Leshan to Jiayang, as it does not take the highway and is very slow.
  3. At Qianwei Bus Station, take a bus to Sanjing across the street. The terminal station is Jiayang Little Train, 5 yuan/person.

Props: Straw hat, newspaper, woven straw bag.

Costumes: Fresh white tulle dress, lace dress.

A Little “White” Flower for You

Flower Name: Pear Blossom
Blooming Period: Late March to Mid-April
Where to Find🔍: Aba·Jinchuan

Among Sichuan’s many colorful blooms, the pear blossoms of Jinchuan County in Aba Prefecture stand out for their clean, refreshing beauty. The pale white petals and gentle fragrance feel calming the moment you arrive.

If time allows, add the nearby Jiaju Tibetan Village in Danba. Tibetan architecture paired with spring pear blossoms is a beautiful combination.

Visit Guide

1 / The Dajinchuan River Valley between Jinchuan and Danba is one of the best pear blossom corridors. Driving gives you the most flexibility.

2 / Generally, due to the lower altitude of Jinchuan, its pear blossoms bloom earlier than those in Danba.

3 / This is a living Tibetan cultural area, so please be respectful of local customs and daily life.

Photography Tips

  1. Outfit: pear blossoms are white, so avoid wearing white. Yellow, red, and camel tones work well.
  2. Framing: close-ups are great, and for portraits, look for blossom-lined paths.
  3. Lens choice: a prime lens works nicely for portraits; a telephoto helps isolate the blossoms.

A Little “Blue” Flower for You

Name: Jacaranda
Blooming Period: Mid-April to Mid-May
Where to Find🔍: Xichang·Various Streets

Jacaranda, native to South America, thrives in warm, sunny, humid conditions. In full bloom it turns streets blue-purple. When the breeze picks up, you’ll see a “jacaranda rain” of falling petals—very romantic.

In the 1980s, Xichang introduced jacaranda trees and planted them extensively along Aerospace North Road. Today you’ll also find them at the Shengli Road × Wenhui Road intersection and along Jianchang Road. Each year, from late April onward, the city shifts into shades of blue and purple.

By late April and early May, if it feels like spring flowers are fading, don’t worry—the roses around Chengdu are just getting started.

At Yunling Rose Garden in Pidu District, you’ll find many rose varieties in bloom. The air smells amazing, and the paths between the flowers are extremely photogenic—photos here tend to come out soft and dreamy.

Visit Guide

1 / Admission is 30 yuan, open daily from 08:00-18:00.

3 / For public transportation, you can get off at the "Yunling" bus stop and walk for 5 minutes to reach the destination.

Photography Tips

  1. If it's sunny, it can get very hot inside, so be sure to apply sunscreen, bring water, and wear a hat.
  1. The paths in the park are not suitable for high heels; flat shoes or sandals are recommended.

  2. The two rows of rose walls near the entrance are quite popular and crowded, so it's better to walk further back where there are many other flower walls, and there's no need to queue up for the front scenes.

  3. Wearing light-colored clothing, such as dresses and straw hats, makes it easy to take beautiful photos.

  4. Besides the red and pink flower walls, there are also white and orange ones further inside, so it's worth exploring more.

To Avoid the “What Flower Is This?” Moment

"Spring outing to admire the flowers, and then standing in front of a flowering tree, you can't help but ask from the bottom of your heart: What on earth is this?"—I believe many of you here can relate to this awkward situation.

A simple fix is to use the “Flower Identifier” WeChat mini-program. It’s quick and surprisingly handy on flower-viewing trips.
